Let’s Talk DDR5…

With 2022 that just kicked off we are slowly starting to see more and more DDR5 memory kits become available. What we also see is that the speeds are increasing at a rapid rate. We already have 6000MT/s kits available and that is a good thing.

So what can you expect from the new DDR5 in terms of real world performance benefits? With the new 12^th Gen Intel platform there are a lot of questions regarding the actual gain in performance as the price is a bit more expensive. At this point you already get nice fast DDR5 kits and with time there will be even faster kits on the market and also the price will come down with time as the technology matures.

In terms of actual performance gains, at this point you can look at roughly a 5% gain on average in games and up to a 15% gain in workload applications. So in terms of workload goes if you are a content creator or use a lot of high CPU load software applications then you will definitely see a great benefit. If you are a midrange gamer that is looking for the best possible performance at the best possible price then I will say stick with a nice fast DDR4 memory kit and motherboard.

With the Intel 12^th Gen Core series CPU’s you get great performance regardless of DDR4 or DDR5. With that said the DDR5 will give you the benefit of faster speeds in the future and it is the more efficient option between the two.

So there is the current situation with DDR5 and I’m looking forward to the next bump in performance and cheaper options becoming available. Only time will reveal what is on the table next.
